Candle arches are among the oldest traditional decorations in the Erzgebirge. They illuminated the windows, to show the miners the way home,who hardly saw the light of the sun in the dark seasons, as they drove early into and late out of the mine. Today, candle arches are used as Christmas decorations, but the fascination of light has remained.

The Weigla company from Deutschneudorf manufactures both classic and modern candle arches. The deer family candle arch has a traditional motif and is one of the most popular motifs among customers. The candle arch is made of plywood and fitted with seven ribbed candles, which are hidden behind the trees at the top edge. Thanks to the 3D look, the arch can be viewed from both sides. The picture shows a roaring stag with magnificent antlers, grazing in a forest clearing with two of its hinds. Surrounded by a forest and hidden between two small fir trees, two small stag calves lie in the middle. Squirrels run around in the branches of the forest and two eagle owls have made themselves comfortable on thick branches. The indirect light makes the scenery seem mystical and magical.
